A research blog on collective action, social innovation and resilient communities and cities

The importance of knowledge and the university in society

Blaž will be presenting CASIE at the Meeting Point session of the SMUL conference in Ljubljana, which focuses on the importance and value of knowledge and the university in today’s society.

The research Neighbourhood Collective Action and Social Innovation for Resilient Cities in East Asia and Europe, CASIE, seeks to understand the importance of collective action and social innovation in building resilient communities and cities in East Asia and Europe. Through a comparative, case-oriented research approach, CASIE combines micro and macro analysis of actors and forms of neighbourhood collective action, exploring their interrelationships and relevance for fostering social innovation.

Using an interdisciplinary, interscalar and intercultural approach, the research aims to combine and advance Asian studies and critical urban theory. It also seeks to promote the uptake of academic research in society through policy recommendations and intersectoral collaboration between academia, communities, civil society and the public sector.

CASIE seeks to work across disciplines, cultural contexts, and the academic, civil society and public sectors. Such an interdisciplinary, intercultural and intersectoral approach is expected to enhance not only research outcomes but also their relevance to society.

The Meeting Point session of the SMUL conference will take place on Monday, October 7, 2024, from 16:20 to 18:00 at the Academy of Music, University of Ljubljana.
